Storing furniture designs: CD Racks and Bookcases.

Shelves units used to be only needed for those with hundreds of books that needed to be kept in a methodical order to be easily found afterwards. Then came records, then tapes, after CD’s, and now, an 8 year old may require a massive unit to store his or her endless pile of computer games. The truth is that, as we grow older, and the family bigger, the more objects we accumulate: clothes, shoes, toys, wires, plugs, pictures, kitchen tools, bills, random papers, etc, etc. The biggest challenge may be not storing all objects but easily finding them afterwards. Yet, when it comes to interior design the challenging thing will be finding storing furniture that plays a role on interior decoration as well as it does functionally.

CD Racks / DVD Racks: When you own of CD’s, it becomes necessary to keep them organized: a storing unit made out specifically for CD cases will help a great deal on this point. Having shelves with different measures to the CD cases will derive on space waste (if the spaces are too big) or may result unpractical if they are too small. However, do keep in mind that there are ordinary two different sizes of CD and DVD cases, so mixed shelves height can be useful. Choose the shelving unit material according to how outstanding you wish the piece to be: for it to be less prominent, a glass CD rack will be the choice. Keep in mind that CD and DVD cases are rather small, so it will be wise to have a slim unit and save some space.

Bookcases: If it is only for your kid’s schoolbooks, a desk unit with bookshelves will be best. Now, if you are a reader and own many books, you will know how deteriorated they can get (specially old or used editions of books that have ceased to be published) and how valuable they can be, so the best option –yet more expensive-  are bookcases with doors (ideally, clear glass ones, of course).  Since the heights of books have a bigger degree of variation than CD and DVD cases and different textures for the covers, it may be a smart decision to go for robust bookcases with prominent frames.  Also keep in mind that to achieve a color balance, white or dark wood or glass bookcases will look better, for white and black go with every color.
