Moroccan Interior Design and Moroccan Decoration.
Moroccan interior design and decoration bespeaks of the diversity of this interesting culture. Its content and designs have been an inspiration for different artist, including architecture and interior decoration (as well as literature and painting). Gardens and outdoor spaces are highly important in Moroccan decoration: whitewashed walls, garden sofas and seating with colorful cushions and carpets and canopies with bright colors. Moroccan interior and exterior design are highly connected to the area’s climate (for the importance of the balance between interior design and climate see my article Interior Design and Temperature: Choosing style according to climate.). Bright colors and awnings serve the purpose of sheltering from the heat and the desert sun, hammocks and elements to have a fresh rest, where you can just lay and relax.
Moroccan decoration goes hand in hand with sun, sand, palm trees and heat, so it is a fresh decoration style with natural elements, bright colors and abundance of white and beige, as well as the presence of water, plants and rustic furniture.
To create a Moroccan interior design style for a room, the wall should have white or clear color with rustic finishing. Include also tapestries with creamy colors as the sole element of wall decoration.
Moroccan furniture will be made out of natural wood with very simple lines. It is for the cushions and their covers to bring warmth and comfort to this rather rough furniture.
For decoration, mudejar elements are indispensable in Moroccan interior decoration (mudejar refers to the style of Spanish architecture from the 13th to 16th centuries, a fusion of Romanesque and Gothic with Arabic.). Clay and wood objects will perfectly suite any corner of a Moroccan room.
Ceramics are a characteristic element of Moroccan interior design, it can be used for walls, floors, as a cover for furniture, as fountains decoration, ponds, windows and doors (pretty much for everything!)
Folding screens are a must have in any Moroccan interior, they can be made from forged iron, craved wood, ceramic and fabrics.
Colors in Moroccan decoration will be vibrant: reds, blues, greens, yellows, golden and silver as well.
Moroccan rugs and tapestry are renowned for being colourful and of outstanding quality. They can be used in many rooms and are a useful resource that adds warmth so they are ideal for climates opposite as the Morocco weather.
Is may be difficult to conceive how a decoration style such as the Moroccan, which is focused on outdoor elements can be used in a country with the opposite weather such as England, where we don’t get the opportunity to hang out outdoors that much. The truth is that, there may be nothing better than Moroccan decoration and design to bring the notion of warmth that is implicit (and explicit too) in this culture decoration. It could be a good idea (as well as a bold and interesting interior design statement) to incorporate outdoor furniture into the interiors and provide a comfy and warm atmosphere (and a very exotic one too).
