Modern French Interior Design: Eco Homes by Maurice Padovani
Eco friendly homes have grown in demand and in popularity. I would like to take a look at this French antecedent, Maurice Padovani, that designed some years ago a set of homes in Marseilles.
When given a lot at this popular place, Padovani designed and built four houses keeping always in mind power efficiency. Besides energy functionality, the design is something to take a look at too.
The overall design of the house is though to maximize energy: The houses are orientated towards the sun to receive as much light as possible during the day. They have installed a set of solar panels in two of the roofs of the four houses that, besides sharing the design, share their source of solar power (the solar panels occupy a total of 32 square meters). The solar panels provide hot water to all houses and also to their pools.
The intensive use of shutters is meant for privacy (as well as having a function in the design, generating visual effects in the interiors. The house colors and geometric design has been thought to provide contrast with the garden that includes tropical trees. Besides the attention towards visual impact, acoustic has not been set aside: the walls have porous materials to create a sound barrier.
The furniture is composed by few and functional pieces. The stairs are made of 100% pure polished steel, each step weighting 30 kilograms.
The house includes an office, a guest room and a library, the latter placed in between the two levels.
