Interior Design and Temperature: Choosing style according to climate.

In the same way that we chose our clothes according to temperature and seasons, the home should adapt to regional weather. Of course, it is impossible to change furniture everyday depending on the daily temperature, but each country and region has an average weather and it wise to decorate house interiors keeping a balance between external weather and interior design: if the general weather is cold and cloudy (United Kingdom, for example), interiors should transmit heat and warmth; in regions with high temperatures, it is advised to keep it cool.
Carpet floors has been the most used solution in England to fight cold weather but there are usually a bit annoying to clean and not ideal for those who suffer from allergies. Wooden floors can be a good alternative, they offer durability and resistance and a variety of tones that go from lighter colors (when the rooms are small) to darker colors which will increase the feeling of heat and go perfectly well with all types of rugs.

In hot weather regions, marble or tiled floors will be perfect for keeping the temperature down and lovely to walk barefooted on a really hot day. Again, choose the color keeping in mind the size of the room.

Wallpaper will always bring certain coziness along, so they are a good option for cold temperatures. One color painted walls tend to look more naked –which can be solved by applying textures- and white is the favorite color when it comes to really high temperatures. The good thing about painted walls is that they can be customized by drawing, which is frequently seen on beach resorts (with fishes, native art, etc), you can do this yourself, just make sure you draw the design on pencil first and remember that if you don’t have that much experience, your house walls are not the best place to improvise. Regarding tones; pale for cold and bright for heat.

Furniture:
Wood furniture will certainly add warmth to any room, while glass furniture will tend to make it look and feel cooler. However, having wood furniture in the entire house may result a little boring sometimes, so remember that glass furniture is ideal for bathrooms and kitchens and in cold weather regions, dark colored glass furniture and faux leather furniture can also be a good variant to wood furniture. Now, if the room has wood flooring and wood furniture it is highly important to place a rug in-between to separate and to add a second texture into the room.
For warm regions, clear glass furniture and marble are ideal, although oak wood furniture can also be successfully used.
